About My Project

The project delves into the significant health challenge posed by dementia, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting approximately 110,000 individuals in Switzerland. It highlights the innovative approach of using immersive media, like Virtual Reality (VR), to enhance the quality of life for people with dementia and alleviate caregiver stress. The research explores the application of VR devices in gerontology, focusing on the effects of Cinematic VR Videos on symptoms such as agitation, aggression, and apathy. Preliminary studies indicate promising results, suggesting VR could be a valuable tool in managing dementia’s behavioural and psychological symptoms.

Why I Do This Project

The motivation behind this project stems from a deep-seated desire to leverage technology in addressing complex health challenges. By exploring the intersection of virtual reality and dementia care, the goal is to not only offer innovative solutions that improve the lives of those affected but also to pave the way for future research in this area. This project represents a convergence of technology and healthcare, aiming to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals with dementia and their caregivers, by providing them with new avenues for interaction and engagement beyond traditional treatment methods.
